Privacy
Plain-English summary of what PortJar collects, why, and how to change your mind. No dark patterns, no email gating, no account required.
What we collect
Tool inputs you submit (a domain name, an IP address, a port number) are sent to our server only to compute the result. We don't store them in a database. Standard web-server logs (IP, user-agent, path, timestamp) are kept for 7 days for abuse prevention and rate limiting, then rotated out.
We do not collect names, emails, phone numbers, or payment data — there is no signup or account.
Cookies and consent
On your first visit you see a banner with two choices: Accept all or Reject. Your choice is stored locally in your browser (key pj.consent.v1 in localStorage) so you only see the banner once. We use Google Consent Mode v2 — until you accept, all four consent signals below are sent as denied, which means analytics and ad cookies are blocked at the Google library level.
| Signal | What it covers |
|---|---|
| analytics_storage | Cookies Google Analytics uses to count returning visitors and aggregate session data. |
| ad_storage | Cookies AdSense uses to remember which ads were shown and prevent the same ad repeating. |
| ad_user_data | Permission to send identifiers (cookie ID, hashed identifiers) to Google for ads measurement. |
| ad_personalization | Permission to use your data for personalised ads (versus contextual / non-personalised ads only). |
When you click Reject, all four stay denied. Google Analytics still records aggregate, cookieless pings (used for conversion modelling) but no identifying cookies are dropped.
Third-party services
- Google Analytics 4 — page views and tool usage counts. Respects your consent choice.
- Google AdSense — ad serving (currently in placeholder mode pending approval). Respects your consent choice.
- Cloudflare — CDN and DDoS protection in front of our origin server. Cloudflare may set its own cookies for security purposes.
- ipinfo.io — used by the “What's My IP” and ASN tools to look up geolocation. Only the IP you submit is sent; nothing about you personally.
Changing your consent
To re-show the banner and pick again, clear site data for portjar.com in your browser's settings (Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies → See all site data → portjar.com → Delete). That removes the stored choice, and the banner reappears on your next visit.
